In

due to some dishonest businesses! Here’s
how this “scam” worked:
During the 1st. Quarter of 2006 their rebate
office reported that they had received more rebate forms than all of the
previous years combined. Something was radically wrong and upon further
investigation it was determined that some liquor stores and restaurants were
working together to deceive the Smoking Loon Corporation. For $5.00 cash you
could get a Smoking Loon / Pepperwood Grove rebate form and a “bogus”
register receipt that you had purchased a case of wine .. then all you had
to do was send in the completed form with the register receipt and you would
receive a $30.00 check .. netting you a $25.00 profit for the price of a
First Class Stamp ! Mixed-in with the legal rebates it became very difficult
to determine who was legal and who wasn’t and by the time that this was
determined it had cost the company 2 – 3
Million Dollars which they had to honor.
“Smoking
Loon & Pepperwood Grove” will continue their rebate program but it will be
changed and we will let you know as soon as the details arrive.
