Hard to believe but
that’s what most people in this Country still think when
they hear
about a ‘Wine Tasting Event’!
That concept started to disappear
in the 1950s when the general population began
to realize that
wines “Pair” very well with all different foods and unfortunately the
up-scale restaurants
were the first to use this concept so .. Wine gained a very
“snooty”reputation and folks felt that the only way to appreciate
different wines was to attend a Wine Tasting only at an elegant
restaurant for “Big Dollars” ie. “The more expensive it was .. the
better was the wine” = ‘FALSE’!
So, after 12 years of doing Wine Tasting events an average of once a
month ..
We’re going to do a tasting featuring “Cheese” but incorporating cheeses
that are available at almost any large supermarket chain into some very
interesting dishes !
This approach
should prove very “eclectic” (a fancy word for something very current
and unique, selecting ideas from different sources !)

& Cheese
Cheese is an ancient food whose origins predate recorded history. There
is no conclusive evidence as to where cheese-making originated, Europe,
Asia or the Middle East prior to Roman times.
Proposed dates
range from 8000 BC (when sheep were first domesticated) to 3000 BC and
the first cheese may have been made by nomadic tribes in Central Asia.
This wine event
will feature cheeses that are some-what uncommon but readily available
in most of the larger supermarket stores. For example:
-
Double Cream Brie
..
from the French province named “Brie”‘In French, the cheese is named by the province
that first produced it’ !
-
Goat
Milk Cheese .. Although the West has popularized the cow, goat
milk & cheese are preferred dairy products in much of the rest of the World.
-
Manchego ..
is a
cheese made in the La Manchego region of Spain from the milk of sheep of the Manchego breed which is
aged for between 60 days & 2 years !
