What is ‘Big Stash’s
anyway ?
It’s a restaurant on South Wood Avenue in
Linden, NJ .. Just 1 Block off of Route #1 that has not changed since the
1950s and to say that ‘Big Stash’s’ is an institution is an understatement !
Today we would call this an
‘ethnic’ eatery offering foods from Eastern Europe, primarily from Poland
and it’s bordering countries
.. and what foods:
Corned Beef & Pastrami on real rye bread, the best Potato Salad & Cole Slaw,
Kielbasa of all kinds, (usually with Kraut and sometimes from
Pulaski’s Polish Market on North Wood Ave)
Hand Made Pierogues (Churches were built on
these in this area and sometimes you can see into this kitchen and view the
older ladies, in Babushkas, making them), Stuffed Cabbages and if you’re not
“washing all this down” with beer & Polish Blackberry Brandy (Jerzynowka) &
Chrusciki for dessert .. you should be !!
