The Eastern foothills of the Cascade Mountains with it’s irrigation of plentiful and cool mountain water were first discovered by the American pioneers about 1800. These early settlers discovered that the area’s rich-lava soil and plentiful sunshine created perfect conditions for growing apples..

  • ·        More than half of all apples grown in the US for fresh eating come from orchards in Washington State

  • ·        An apple has 5 grams of fiber, supplying 20% of the daily recommendation

  • ·        Washington apples are sold in all 50 states and more than 50 countries

  • ·        Americans eat approximately 19 pounds of fresh apples annually, compared to about 46 pounds consumed by residents of European countries

 Here’s a few things that you knew or didn’t know about the apple:
The tree originated in Western Asia where it’s wild ancestor is still today ! 

Apples were brought to North America with colonists in the 17th century and at least 55 million tones of were grown worldwide with a value of about $10 billion.

Who were the major producers ?

China produced about 35% this total, US is the second-leading producer with 7.5% of world total, Iran is third followed by Turkey, Russia, Italy and India.
